The Pricing of Climate Transition Risk:New Evidence from Equity Markets

We examine how equity markets respond to firms’ profit prospects under a net-zero transition using a new proprietary dataset. Firms expected to benefit financially from transition earn meaningfully higher returns, especially in countries with stricter climate policies. These return differences are not driven by major policy announcements or standard risk factors. Overall, the evidence suggests that markets systematically undervalue firms’ transition prospects.
